Ask your class: “Have you ever been scared of something much bigger than you?” Let students share briefly. Say: “Today, we’re going to hear about a king who faced a powerful enemy, but instead of panicking, he trusted God!”

“Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him.”
Encourage students to create a memory verse crown to wear, representing Hezekiah’s faith as a king.
Bible Story Summary
King Hezekiah ruled the southern kingdom of Judah during a time when many kings before him had turned away from God. But Hezekiah was different. He did what was right in God’s eyes. He destroyed idols, removed pagan temples, and reopened the temple in Jerusalem for worship (2 Kings 18:1–6).
Hezekiah trusted God deeply. When the mighty Assyrian army, led by King Sennacherib, threatened to attack Jerusalem, Hezekiah didn’t try to fight with his own strength. Instead, he sought the prophet Isaiah, and together they prayed to the Lord.
The Assyrians mocked God, saying He couldn’t save Judah. But Hezekiah humbled himself and prayed, saying:
“Now, Lord our God, deliver us… so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.” (2 Kings 19:19)
God answered powerfully! That very night, the Angel of the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When the people woke up, the danger was gone. God had saved them without a single sword being drawn.
Later in his life, Hezekiah became very sick. The prophet Isaiah told him he would die, but Hezekiah prayed again, and God added 15 more years to his life (2 Kings 20). Through every challenge, Hezekiah turned to God, and God answered.
