Teach your students about the wisdom of King Solomon, the temple he built for God, and the importance of seeking God first.
Learning Objectives

Introductory Activity
Begin with a fun question: “If you could ask God for anything, what would you ask for?” Write answers on the board. Then explain how Solomon asked God for something surprising, and it changed everything!
Memory Verse
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Encourage kids to color or illustrate the verse and display it as a reminder to seek God’s wisdom.
Bible Story Summary
When David died, his son Solomon became king (1 Kings 1-2). Though young and inexperienced, Solomon had a humble heart. One night, God appeared to him in a dream and told him he could ask for anything. Instead of asking for riches, power, or a long life, Solomon asked for wisdom to govern God’s people well. God was pleased and not only gave him wisdom, but also great wealth and honor (1 Kings 3:5–14).
Solomon’s wisdom became famous. One well-known example is when two women came to him, both claiming to be the mother of the same baby. Solomon suggested dividing the baby in two, but the real mother begged him to give the child to the other woman, revealing her true identity (1 Kings 3:16–28). Everyone was amazed at his wisdom.
As king, Solomon also led Israel to build the Temple of the Lord, a magnificent place of worship (1 Kings 6–8). He spared no expense and followed God’s instructions carefully. When the temple was finished, he led the people in a beautiful prayer, dedicating the temple to God. God’s presence filled the temple with glory.
Solomon wrote many proverbs and songs, sharing the wisdom God gave him. He ruled during a time of great peace and prosperity.
However, in his later years, Solomon made some poor choices. He married many foreign wives who led him to worship other gods. His heart turned from the Lord, and as a result, God warned that the kingdom would be divided after his death (1 Kings 11).
Even so, Solomon’s early life teaches us to value God’s wisdom, honor Him with our talents, and stay faithful.

- True wisdom comes from God: We should seek God’s guidance in every decision.
- God honors a humble heart: Solomon’s request pleased God more than anything else.
- We can use our gifts to honor God: Like Solomon built the temple, we can use our talents to serve God.
- Stay faithful: Even wise people can be led astray if they stop putting God first.
Creative Teaching Ideas
- Fun and engaging worksheets: Use worksheets that promote learning and independent work.
- Wisdom Crown Craft: Have children make paper crowns with the word “Wisdom” and decorate with jewels and Bible verses.
- Role-Play Solomon’s Judgment: Act out the story of the two mothers and the baby for a fun and memorable lesson.
- Wisdom Chest: Have the children make a paper chest, and inside it write Proverbs 3:13-15.
- Proverb Poster: Let each student pick a proverb and illustrate it to display on the classroom wall.
Closing Encouragement
Remind children that God cares more about our hearts than our possessions. Encourage them to ask God for wisdom every day and to use their talents to glorify Him. Like Solomon, they can grow in knowledge, leadership, and faith when they seek God first.
