Bible Story Summary
David and Goliath is one of the most beloved Bible stories that reminds us that faith can conquer fear. The story is found in 1 Samuel 17. The Israelites were facing the Philistines, and among them was a giant named Goliath who mocked God and challenged the army of Israel. For 40 days, no one dared to fight him.
David, the youngest son of Jesse and a humble shepherd boy, visited the battlefield to bring food to his brothers. When he heard Goliath’s insults, David was not afraid, he was outraged that anyone would defy the living God.
Despite being young and inexperienced in battle, David volunteered to fight Goliath. King Saul was doubtful, but David told him how God had helped him fight off lions and bears while protecting his sheep (1 Samuel 17:34-37). Saul allowed David to go but tried to equip him with armor. David refused and instead took five smooth stones and his sling.
With full trust in God, David ran toward Goliath, declared God’s power, and struck the giant with one stone to the forehead. Goliath fell, and David became a hero in Israel, not because of strength or weapons, but because of his unwavering faith.
