Introduction: Try This!
Give each child a simple “spy mission”, like finding a hidden object in the room or quietly observing something and reporting back. Then ask: “What did it feel like to be a spy?” Transition into the story by saying, “Today, we’ll hear about twelve men who were sent on a very special mission by Moses!”

Bible Story Summary (Numbers 13–14)
After the Israelites left Egypt and traveled through the wilderness, they reached the edge of the Promised Land. God told Moses to send twelve men (one from each tribe) to explore the land of Canaan. Their job was to see what the land was like and bring back a report.
The twelve spies explored the land for forty days. They saw giant grapes, strong cities, and even people who seemed like giants! When they returned, ten of the spies were scared. They said, “The people are too big! The cities are too strong! We can’t go in!” Their report made the Israelites afraid.
But two spies, Joshua and Caleb, trusted God. They said, “Yes, the people are strong, but God is stronger! He will help us take the land!” Sadly, the people listened to the ten fearful spies instead of believing in God’s power.
Because of their lack of faith, God said the people would wander in the desert for forty years, until a new generation was ready to obey and trust Him.
Joshua and Caleb were rewarded for their faith. They would one day enter the Promised Land, while the others would not. Their story reminds us that faith pleases God, even when others are afraid.
