Introduction: Try this!
Ask the children: “Have you ever been really hungry and had to wait a long time to eat?”
Activity Idea: Set up a fun “Waiting Game” where kids must wait a few minutes before receiving a small treat, and discuss how hard it is to wait, just like the people of Samaria had to wait for God’s help.
Memory Verse
2 Kings 7:1 (NIV):
“Elisha replied, ‘Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of the finest flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.’”
Bible Story Summary (2 Kings 6:24–7:20)
The city of Samaria was under attack! The army of Aram had surrounded it, and no food could get in. People were starving, and things looked hopeless. It was a very dark and scary time for the people inside the city walls.
But God had a plan. He sent a message through His prophet Elisha. Elisha boldly announced that by the next day, food would be so plentiful that it would be sold at a normal price again. It sounded unbelievable, how could food suddenly appear when the city was surrounded by enemies?
Meanwhile, four men with leprosy, who lived outside the city, decided to do something brave. They said, “Let’s go to the camp of the Arameans. Maybe they will have mercy on us!” When they reached the enemy camp, they discovered something amazing: the camp was completely empty! God had caused the Aramean army to hear the sound of a great army approaching, so they had fled in fear, leaving behind all their food, supplies, and treasures.
The four lepers rushed back to Samaria to tell the good news. Soon, the people of Samaria poured out of the city, gathered the food, and rejoiced! Just as Elisha had said, food was plentiful again, and God’s promise came true.
