Introductory Activity
Activity: “Design a Colorful Coat!”
Give children an outline of a coat or tunic on paper and provide colorful materials—tissue paper, crayons, stickers, etc. Let them decorate their own unique coat. While they work, tell them today’s story is about a boy who received a very special coat from his father—and what happened because of it!

This verse reminds children that even when life is confusing or hard, we can always trust that God is in control.
Bible Story (Genesis 37)
Joseph was one of the sons of Jacob, and he was his father’s favorite. Jacob showed this love by giving Joseph a beautiful coat made of many colors. But this made Joseph’s brothers jealous. They didn’t like that their father loved Joseph more than them.
One day, Joseph told his brothers about the dreams he had. In those dreams, it seemed like his brothers would bow down to him. That made them even more angry! They thought Joseph was being proud, and their jealousy grew even stronger.
Later, when the brothers were out in the fields, they saw Joseph coming toward them. They made a very bad choice. They took away his special coat, threw him into a pit, and sold him as a slave to some travelers going to Egypt.
Then they lied to their father Jacob. They showed him Joseph’s coat, all torn and dirty, and made him believe that a wild animal had hurt Joseph. Jacob was heartbroken and cried for many days.
Even though things looked really bad for Joseph, God was still with him. Joseph didn’t know what would happen next, but God had a special plan for his life. This hard moment was just the beginning of something amazing that God was going to do.
