Introductory Activity
Have all the children line up side by side. Prepare a bag with papers marked “up” and “down.” Each child will draw a piece of paper and must advance one step if they draw “up,” or retreat one step if they draw “down.” Repeat until someone reaches a previously established goal. Then reflect on how life has ups and downs that make each person’s paths different, but at all times we can count on God’s presence.

This verse helps kids remember that even when others do something wrong, God can still bring good from it.
Bible Story
After being sold by his brothers, Joseph was taken to Egypt as a slave. He worked in the house of a man named Potiphar. Joseph was honest and worked hard, and God blessed everything he did. But one day, he was falsely accused and thrown into prison!
Even in prison, Joseph trusted God. He helped others and was known for being wise and kind. When Pharaoh had strange dreams that no one could explain, someone remembered Joseph! God helped Joseph explain Pharaoh’s dreams—they were a warning about years of plenty followed by years of famine.
Pharaoh was so impressed that he made Joseph a leader over all of Egypt! Joseph stored up food during the good years, just like God had shown him, so there would be enough when the famine came.
During the famine, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt looking for food. They didn’t recognize him, but Joseph knew who they were! He had a chance to get revenge—but instead, he chose to forgive. He helped his whole family move to Egypt where they would be safe and cared for.
Joseph’s story reminds us that God is with us in every part of life—the hard parts and the happy ones. God can turn even sad or unfair things into something beautiful.
